DropBox Inc. and Satellite Shelters partnered up last week and shared a 30' x 50' booth space at the American Electric Power BRO Forum. The AEP BRO is an annual event where AEP employees, contractors and invitation-only vendors converge on the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus Ohio. At the forum attendees and exhibitors discuss Boiler Reliability, new techniques, and technology in the power generation industry. AEP Employees from the companies 60 power plants around the country met and attended various boiler related sessions while vendors setup booth displays and social environments for them to enjoy during the show. 

This year DropBox Inc. and Satellite Shelters encouraged visitors to the booth to participate in a corn hole throwing game to win prizes that included flashlights, measuring tapes, T-Shirts, hats, and much much more. In addition to the corn hole contest the booth was filled with information on both DropBox Inc. and Satellite Shelters products. Complete with an 8' x 20' ground level office shipping container modification provided by DropBox Inc. and an 8' x 20' office trailer from Satellite Shelters the booth had a lot for visitors to see. As part of the booth space at the AEP BRO Forum information on all of the products offered by DropBox Inc. and Satellite Shelters could also be found.

DropBox Inc. just recently began construction on three new modular offices that will be used as meeting spaces for management and break rooms for employees with the Shaw Group. A Fortune 500 Company with 27,000 employees around the world, Shaw serves the energy, chemical, environmental, infrastructure and emergency response industries. Having worked with DropBox Inc. in the past procurement professionals with The Shaw Group knew just who to call when they had a need for custom 10' x 30' portable offices.

Every year towards the endof September American Electric Power sponsors a fundraising event to benefit the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. The 2011 AEP Harvest for Hunger Palooza was held at the COSI in Columbus, Ohio. Monies raised at the event are part of AEP Ohio’s Partnership with Ohio (PWO) program that provides additional help in the areas of health, hunger and housing to Ohio’s needy families. These programs are designed to include families with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level, a segment of the population that often does not qualify for state and federal aid.

While the 2011 donation from AEP and other sponsors in attendance are yet to be determined it is known that in 2010 the event helped raise $304,391 dollars for the foodbank. "AEP Ohio established the Partnership with Ohio program to provide meaningful assistance to Ohioans in time of need," said Joe Hamrock, president and chief operating officer for AEP Ohio. "The help of outstanding agencies such as the Mid-Ohio Foodbank ensures that this contribution will be effective, and will quickly appear as healthy food on the table for thousands of families throughout the region."

Yesterday DropBox Inc. delivered this custom ISO shipping container modification that consists of two shipping containers that were designed to house a guard office, first aid station, and a restroom. This unit has been designed to tie into existing water and sewer lines and has been fitted with an exterior facade of architectural block to match existing buildings at the site. This custom shipping container modification has been under construction at the manufacturing facility in Worthington, KY where a factory acceptance test was performed by DropBox Inc. staff as well as the customer before being delivered. Prior to delivery this unit was pulled apart and each of the two shipping container modules were individually wrapped for shipping. 

DropBox Inc. representatives were onsite to help with logistics and support through the delivery and setup of this two shipping container modification. With the second of the two container modules in place all that is left to do is connect the plumbing, electric, and secure the customer requested awning to the unit. Just recently DropBox Inc. completed contstruction on this new twenty foot long DropOffice.This New 20' DropOffice is a custom shipping container modification that will be used as a modular office for a BP gas station.The custom paint job was specified by the customer to match the existing facade of the gas station on site. As the customer asked the unit was painted green around the bottom and white on top.
    

With the unit delivered and installed on site it is ready to be put to use as office space for management at the facility. The customer was pleased to see the unit on site as quickly as it was stating, "from the time I placed the order to the time it was delivered was only 3 weeks and that just amazed me."

What is a Shipping Container?  At Dropboxinc.com, we get a high volume of traffic and a number of people asking this very question. More often than not our answer is "a solid steel box" or a "heavy duty connex container". In lay terms a shipping container is a steel box consisting of roofs and walls, floors, paint and corner castings.

Roofs and Walls:

Typically roofs and walls of ISO Shipping Containers are constructed by two kinds of materials. Most commonly containers use 16 gauge corrugated steel as the primary component for construction. Corrugated steel is often used because it is cost effective and is easy to repair. From time to time Dropbox Inc will also come across aluminum sheet shipping containers. As and alternative to corrugated steel, aluminum has a lower tare weight but can be easily dented or scratched and is harder to repair.


Flooring:

The floor of shipping containers is primarily made of wood planks or plywood with steel support beams. The standard thickness for international shipping containers flooring is 1 1/8" thick. Even though wood is relatively expensive, it has significant advantages over other materials; it is strong and resilient, does not dent, and may be easily replaced during repairs. Along with the wood, below the floor are steel cross members or beams that increase the strength so that you can put up to 28,000 kg in a single 20' container.

Paint:

Due to the long-term exposure to the marine elements, containers are manufactured with highly durable, long-lasting paint. The exterior and interior of the bare steel container surface is primed with a zinc rich primer and dried. Once the primer has finished drying a final top coat of marine paint is then applied. The marine paint used to paint shipping containers typically contains zinc phosphate and is based on acrylic resin and non-chlorinated plasticizers.

Corner Castings:

Corner castings are the steel corner supports of a connex container which bears all of the weight when containers are stacked. ISO standards state that the corner posts of an ISO shipping container or milvan should be tested to a load of 86,400 kg. The load barring properties of these units makes them stackable up to 8 high.
