PSG Hosts Annual PSM Worker Appreciation Meal

Every year, Portable Solutions Group and its family of companies (DropBox Inc., Modular Security Systems Inc., and Portable Solutions Manufacturing) hosts a worker appreciation lunch for our manufacturing team. For this year, we had Hillbilly Hibachi, a Japanese inspired food truck, come and serve them right in the parking lot!

Licensed and certified in their respective crafts/trades, our in-house craftsmen work very hard to ensure that each product is built with the utmost attention to detail. Because of this, their dedication to meeting and exceeding all requirements, and continuous improvement of our processes, we want to thank our manufacturing team for everything that they do for our family of companies each and every day.

Questions to Help DropBox Inc. Build Your Shipping Container Modification Product

Posted on Thu, Mar 25, 2021 @ 11:03 AM

ISO Shipping container, shipping container modifications, shipping container modifications company, custom shipping container modification, custom ISO shipping container modification, ISO shipping container modification, shipping container modification engineering, shipping container modification manufacturing, shipping container modification questions, shipping container modification application

At DropBox Inc., we can modify any of our standard products or build a completely custom solution to meet your job-specific needs. However, it's important for us to understand what the application of your shipping container modification product is in order to develop scope. For our team to do this, we must ask our customers some important questions.

1. Which class, regulations or other standard must your need comply with?

Depending on your industry and application, there are many standards that you may have to comply with. This can include standards such as ISO 5 to 8 class standard, FDA and ISO-14644 regulations, GMP, etc. By answering this question, we can ensure that your product meets all of your code requirements.

2. What are the required operating conditions?

Depending on what you are planning on placing in your shipping container modification, it may be beneficial to install an HVAC system. HVAC design is driven by cleanliness of the room but also by the required temperature, humidity, and pressure differential. We’ll need to know how many people will be working in the space, the equipment in place, the heat it generates (watt), and where the unit will be placed geographically.

3. Do you have a sketch of the product that you're considering?

Illustrations of the product that you're considering gives us a visual idea of what features you wish your product to have. By illustrating the movements/flow inside the room as well the entrance and exit of both material and personnel, it will help us gain an understanding of what you had in mind. Other design elements you can include are how many doors and windows you would like, where work benches would be located, if you need airlocks, etc.

4. What will you be installing into the product that you're considering?

If you're installing something such as a fume hood, casework, or other cabinetry to your product, are we to provide and install or will your team be doing so? If you choose to have our team provide and install the features, we must also know if you would like our in-house design/engineering team to come up with the solution or not.

5. What space will you be working with?
In order for our team to manufacture a product that works best for your jobsite, it's important for us to understand where it is going to be placed to prevent sinking, violations of code requirements, rusting, etc. To gain this understanding, we ask our customers to answer the following:
          1. Inside or outside an existing structure
          2. Permanent, semi-permanent or temporary application
          3. Site location (zip code)
          4. State or local code requirements
          5. Foundation type
          6. Input power available
          7. Power consumption or need by piece of equipment
          8. Interior wall finishes preference
          9. Overall interior footprint needed (square foot)
          10. Casework or other cabinetry requirements
6. What is the overall timeline for your project?

Another important question that we ask is when are you wanting to receive your product from the receipt of the purchase order (P.O.) to it arriving on your jobsite. This will allow us to develop a timeline and decide whether or not the project time will need to be increased.

Are you ready to take the next steps? Speak to one our knowledgeable sales associates by calling 740.532.7822 or filling out a form here.

How To Prepare Your Shipping Container Modification For Cold Weather

How to prepare your shipping container modification for cold weather

As many states are experiencing cold weather conditions, it's important to prepare for the extremely low temperatures. This is especially true for people who are considering purchasing a modified shipping container! At DropBox Inc., we offer many different customization options that will keep your shipping container modification product warm. And with proper preparation, you can protect your shipping container modification from harsh climates and increase its life span as a result. Here’s what you need to know to prepare your unit.

Insulation

Insulating your shipping container modification offers both immediate and long-term benefits such as reducing energy costs, preventing moisture condensation, safety and protection of personnel, and much more. Here are the benefits of different types of insulation.

Closed-Cell Spray Foam

Closed-cell foam insulation has the highest R-value of any insulation which measures an insulation's thermal resistance. The higher an insulation's R-value, the greater the effectiveness. When closed-cell foam insulation is applied, the insulation creates an air barrier to prevent air leakage. This prevents moisture and reduces the risk of mold. It's also a rigid material that helps reject water and is recognized as a flood-resistant material by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Closed-cell foam insulation has many other advantages including being able to be applied at very low temperatures, adding wall racking strength as well as impact resistance, and higher bond strength.

Mineral Wool

Mineral wool insulation has many benefits. It has a very high R-value and contains 70% recycled material, making it a greener product compared to the other insulation types. With a large density, mineral wool has superior sound-deadening properties. The stiffer batts don’t tend to flop over as easily, making it easier to put in place, and they don’t require staples or wire to keep them in place. It’s also hydrophobic and fire resistant, so it won’t absorb water, won't encourage the growth of mold and mildew, and can act as a fire stop.

Fiberglass

Fiberglass is a commonly used type of insulation, partially because it's affordable. Overall, it has a good R-value. Since it's popular among the general public, this insulation type is available in many different sizes and with or without a paper facing. It’s also lightweight, made with with 20-30% recycled content, and easy to install in a wide range of circumstances, often with just a tack nailer.

Generators

To support loss of power, DropBox Inc. can manufacture shipping container modifications to include generators with manual transfer switches. This will not only keep your build heated, but it will also keep your appliances and tools connected to power and functioning properly. For example, by having a generator, you can keep your HVAC running and increase your protection against mold and mildew.

PEX Piping

DropBox Inc. utilizes PEX piping for freshwater lines. There are many benefits to using PEX piping over other materials (i.e. copper, PVC, galvanized steel). PEX offers resistance to breakage caused by freezing by being able to expand. It's also flexible and easier to install, reducing the need for holes and notches to accommodate the tubing and eliminating the need for many elbows and other transition fittings.

HVAC Systems

Another way to keep your shipping container modifications warm during the cold months is to install an HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system. There are many other different benefits to having this type of system installed including improved indoor air quality and moisture consistency. An HVAC system can improve air quality by constantly exchanging the indoor air with fresh, outdoor air that is also filtered for the best quality possible. And whether you're in a climate that changes every season, or in a climate that remains constant, you can always run the risk of retaining moisture. So, to reduce the chances of mold growth, the HVAC system pulls warm, moist air out and sends dry, cool air inside.

PSG ANNOUNCES 2020 FOURTH QUARTER MAJOR AWARD WINNER

In honor of hard work and a "can-do" attitude, Portable Solutions Group and its family of companies (DropBox Inc., Modular Security Systems Inc., and Portable Solutions Manufacturing) recognizes William (Will) Pendleton as the 2020 fourth quarter recipient of its Major Award. Will currently serves as the Integration Manager. Over the last year, Will has continued to grow in his roles. Originally hired as a designer, he quickly showed capabilities in integrating various technologies with our existing processes. A needed position was created dedicated towards integrating technology to support Portable Solutions Group’s growth.

Will continues to bring forward his experiences from previous employers including Northrop Grumman and Machine and Components Industries as well as his current educational path in software engineering. With these experiences, we have automated systems to support our companies and their customers. With the help of the design team, Will has automated the design process and now most products can be modeled and documented in days rather than weeks. He has worked with the process engineer to implement computer workstations on the manufacturing floor. He has worked with management to consolidate our IT infrastructure into the Wurtland facility while keeping business activities unaffected. He has worked with access control partners to test and implement new technologies including the thermal systems installed in the MAC Safe-T-Check™ products.

As we move into 2021, the focus will turn towards communication. We are going to work with all departments and find ways to use existing and new technologies to make our daily work more efficient. This allows more focus on customers and their products.

Portable Solutions Group’s continued customer focus would not be possible without Will and his leadership. We would like to congratulate Will Pendleton for winning the Major Award and wish him continued success with our family of companies.

The Journey of a DropBox Inc. ISO Shipping Container Modification

Posted on Tue, Jul 14, 2020 @ 09:07 AM

shipping container modification, DropBox Inc, ISO Shipping container, custom ISO shipping container modification, ISO shipping container modification, shipping container modification design, shipping container modification engineering, Portable Solutions Manufacturing, shipping container modification manufacturing, journey of a shipping container modification

When a standard ISO shipping container arrives onto our manufacturing floor, it must go through a few steps before it's ready to be shipped to our customers. In today's blog, we will be discussing the journey a shipping container takes to become a DropBox Inc. shipping container modification.

Once it's determined what the shipping container is going to be and our CAD department releases the manufacturing drawing set, the cutouts are made and reinforcements are put into place to support doors, windows, or anything else that's going into the cutouts.

After welding and fabrication is complete, the shipping container is sandblasted to prepare the surface for paint or other coatings by spraying sand at a high speed to remove any dirt, grime, and/or rust that may have formed. It's then taken to our state-of-the-art paint booth that has heated air to fully dry or bake in the finished paint. The manufacturing team then begins the internal carpentry, wiring, insulation, interior walls, and plumbing.

Finally, the surfaces, fixtures, electric, and HVAC systems are installed. Then, once the quality inspection is completed to ensure that everything has been done properly, the product is ready to be loaded onto a flatbed or roll-off trailer to be shipped to its final destination.

For more information on DropBox Inc. and its manufacturing capabilities, CONTACT US HERE or call 740.532.7822.
