Among DropBox Inc.'s product line, our Industrial Packaging Group 1/Strong-Tight (IP-1) Nuclear Storage Containers will meet the specified requirements for closures, risers, lifting capabilities, finishes, and other designs that are used on your jobsite.

Certified by the Department of Transportation, these standard and customizable containers are available in custom sizes ranging from 8'x10' to 8'x40' that meet 49CFR-173.24(a), (b), and 173.410 requirements. To guarantee that each of these open-top containers can safely hold the items that are placed inside, a seal welded, steel floor is inserted and then tested for tightness and potential leaking. Tips for the Proper Maintenance of Your ISO Shipping Container

Posted on Tue, Oct 01, 2019 @ 11:10 AM

So you've purchased a DropBox Inc. ISO shipping container and are ready to use it on your jobsite. This product now belongs to you, and you can use it however you want. Our highly-skilled engineers work hard to ensure that each DropBox Inc. product is made to withstand the harshest conditions. However, how can you ensure that your shipping container remains in the top condition that you received it in? With anything that you own, it's important to care for your shipping container in order for you to get the most out of it. As it's used and exposed to the environment, your shipping container is going to require proper maintenance in order for it last a long time.

Luckily, DropBox Inc. has some tips on how to prevent long-term damage to your product:

1. Inspect and Repair Damages to the Container's Roof

When shipping containers are stacked on top of each other, this can sometimes cause dents to occur. As a result, dents can hold water that leads to the corrosion of the container. When these dents appear, it's important to repair each dent and paint them with rust proof paint. This makes it less likely for rust to appear and damage your shipping container.

2. Remove and Treat Rusted Areas

Although some steel is corrosion resistant, it doesn't mean that they're completely corrosion proof. Certain locations, such as near the ocean where salt air is common, can cause rust to occur more often. Therefore, any dent or scratch that appears must be sealed and painted in order to avoid corrosion.

3. Clean and Lubricate Doors and Handles

The more you use your shipping container, the more worn out the doors tend to get. To combat this, it's important for each door and their handles to be cleaned and greased in order to ensure that they work properly.

4. Examine Container Modifications

When modifying a shipping container to include things such as doors and windows, it increases its exposure to water and dirt. Make sure that you check the areas of your shipping container that have been modified and clean them whenever necessary. This helps avoid corrosion and lengthens the life of your product.

5. Make Sure the Container is on a Level Surface

When the shipping container is placed on a level surface, this prevents water from gathering and corrosion from developing underneath it. Instead, the water is able to be drained properly due to the fact that it isn't leaning to one side.

5 Things You Need to Know About Shipping Container Modifications

Posted on Thu, Jun 29, 2017 @ 14:06 PM

At DropBox Inc. we build almost anything out of ISO shipping containers. We get a lot of requests and questions about shipping container modifications. This week in the Shipping Container Mods Blog we'd like to take a look at the top 5 things we think you need to know about shipping container modifications before you make a purchase.

1. Don't go just buying the cheapest container you can find. Much like anything else when it comes to shipping container modifications, you pay for what you get. Make sure you thoroughly inspect any shipping container or shipping container modification you purchase before you purchase it.

2. Make sure you're not going to violate any building codes in your area. Every state, county, and/or municipality has their own rules for the use of "modular building". Prior to investing a lot of money into any type of shipping container modification it is important to find out what the rules are in your area.

3. Make sure you get a reliable contractor or container modification company. Yeah most anyone with a welder can cut a hole in the side of a box and put in a window or door but much like any other craft shipping container modification comes with its' own set of concerns. When building anything from an ISO shipping container it is important to know that the people building yours have experience and can be trusted to know what they are doing.

4. Know the limits of your box and understand the containers structural limitations. Here at DropBox Inc. we have in-house engineers and CAD draftsmen that help us assure that what we build is fully engineered to both function as need and to be durable during shipping and while in use. If you plan on doing your own shipping container modification work make sure you have your box engineered and designed by an expert.

5. Don't expect to save some exorbitant amount of money. Truth is shipping container modifications aren't as cheap as you might initially expect and like we mentioned earlier, you get what you pay for...

DropBox Inc. Are Shipping Containers Cheap and Widely Available?

Posted on Wed, Jun 21, 2017 @ 09:06 AM

ISO Shipping container modifications, DropBox Inc, ISO Shipping container, Shipping container, custom shipping container modification, custom ISO shipping container modification, ISO shipping container modification

Not a week goes by that we don't get a call or form submission from folks looking for shipping containers for super low prices. One of the more common statements is some variation of:

“I just got back from the beach and there were shipping containers stacked five or six high almost everywhere, with all those containers just laying around I should be able to buy one cheap!”

Unfortunately things are not always as they appear.

Yes, there are a lot of shipping containers stacked up at ports and shipping container lay down yards around the world, but the majority of these shipping containers aren't actually for sale.

In reality there it is estimated that there are anywhere from 10 million to 16 million shipping containers on the planet.  The biggest players in shipping container ownership are, for obvious reasons, international shipping companies like Maersk, Hamburg Sud, COSCO, and container rental/leasing companies like Textainer, Sea Cube, and Blue Sky Intermodal.

In recent years shipping companies have increased the number of years they use these shipping containers and typically try to keep them in rotation via imports and exports around the world. In doing so these companies save money by not having to build new containers but this also means that fewer containers are available to people interested in purchasing them for their own personal storage or shipping container modification project

The majority of shipping containers seen along the coast are either in route to their final destination, or are waiting to be loaded with goods before being sent to their next location. Just because they are seen sitting in port does not necessarily mean they are for sale and are not in use.

These factors lead to shipping containers not being in such a surplus as some might think, but worry not DropBox Inc. is here to meet all of your shipping container and shipping container modification needs.

Here at DropBox Inc. we have built relationships with international shipping companies, container rental/leasing companies, as well as shipping container manufacturers in the US and around the world. We can get the shipping container you need for your project. Whether you are looking to simply purchase an ISO shipping container or to create a shipping container modification we have the people and expertise to meet your needs.

DropBox Inc. - Why Shipping Container Modifications?

Posted on Wed, Jun 07, 2017 @ 10:06 AM

ISO Shipping container modifications, DropBox Inc, Shipping container, custom shipping container modification, custom ISO shipping container modification, ISO shipping container modification

First and foremost, what are shipping container modifications? Well, shipping container modifications are the product resulting from the engineering, design, and modification of an ISO shipping container. Modifications may consist of welding, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and other interior and exterior finishing. Shipping container modifications have become more and more popular because of how much time they can save when it comes to onsite construction. By building these modular units off-site using a lot of the same materials and designs (while meeting various codes and standards), you can save a significant amount of time in comparison to traditional "stick-built" construction. When building using shipping container modifications comprised from individual units or multiple units that are pulled together, even larger projects can be effectively constructed.

Shipping container modification is not only faster than traditional construction, but a lot stronger as well. Each module created from shipping containers is engineered to independently withstand the environment, transportation to the site, and the lifting of the unit off the truck and into position. Once the units are delivered to their desired location, they are also easy to set up and put to work. With most units all that’s needed is a level place to set the shipping container and an electrical connection and the unit is ready to be used for its intended purpose.

So, why are so many people going with shipping container modifications instead of traditionally constructed units? By building off-site, a great deal of the risks associated with construction can be eliminated and higher levels of quality management can be assured. Materials that are delivered to the location are securely stored in a warehouse to prevent any damage from the elements, and workers typically work in a much more controlled environment – out of the weather. At DropBox inc. we utilize an in-house engineering and design team that works closely with our project managers to guarantee that all DropBox Inc. products reflect the highest level of expertise as well as the utmost attention to detail.

DropBox Inc. has also developed a robust quality control program for cross-checking our engineering design functions. To further ensure that our designs meet client needs, several reviews with the project owner and staff are conducted on each unit prior to release. In addition, we can provide PE stamped, engineered drawings for all 50 states. Wherever you are and whatever your needs may be, DropBox can provide your solution. With combined efforts between our designers, engineers, builders, and you the customer, you can create just about anything imaginable from a shipping container.

DropBox Inc. ReInventing the Box by Recycling What Might Otherwise be Discarded

Posted on Wed, Apr 26, 2017 @ 11:04 AM

shipping container modification, ISO Shipping container modifications, DropBox Inc, ISO Shipping container, Shipping container, custom shipping container modification, custom ISO shipping container modification, ISO shipping container modification

As result of imports from other countries almost 7.5 million shipping containers are brought into the United States each year but only 2.5 million get sent back out for exports. Therefore a stockpile of shipping containers can be found in ports around the coastline of the U.S. The ultimate destination for many of these used shipping containers is often the scrap yard, where they are shredded, and sent to be melted down to raw steel. However, Dropbox Inc.  has found a number of ways to recycle both new and used shipping containers to create a wide range of products. By reusing the containers DropBox Inc. allows for a more green application than melting them down. The surplus created by the U.S. trade deficit has lead to the start up of a number of shipping container modification companies like DropBox Inc. that manufacture anything from self storage units, modular offices, portable running water restrooms, and shower facilities.

One use for these otherwise unused shipping containers are what we call the Running Water Restroom (RWR). A commercial quality, portable, and containerized RWR will take the waste management of your site to a whole new level. These portable units are designed to meet the sanitation needs of the man power both in and around your site. These industrial grade units provide the jobsite an added advantage to attract the higher quality craftsmen to get your project completed on time and on budget.

Another use for these containers are DropBox Inc.’s  blast resistant modules. These safety shelters are designed and engineered to meet customer safety needs for work space, break rooms, lunch rooms, meeting areas, and additional storage space. The BRM is perfect for plant outages, turnarounds, temporary offices, tool cribs, offshore drilling and other construction projects. Our standard BRMs are built to withstand 8 psi/200 milliseconds, and include 8' 6" ceilings, 2 entry/egress doors, climate control, insulation, emergency signs, lighting, and electrical outlets.

These are just a couple uses that DropBox Inc. has been able to come up with when it comes to shipping containers.
