DropBox Inc. Manufactures Multiple Containerized Switchgear Units

Over the past few weeks DropBox Inc. has been in the process of engineering and manufacturing a number of 20' and 40' containerized switchgear units. Switchgears are basically a combination of electrical disconnects, fuses and/or circuit breakers that are implemented to isolate electrical equipment. They are typically used to "power down" equipment to allow for repairs to be made and to clear abnormal flows of electricity from a power grid.
The units that DropBox Inc. is currently building are going to be used to transfer electricity from a power grid system, store it in a battery box (a separate container modification for power storage), and to transfer it back to the grid when needed. Typically the demand for or usage of electricity on a given power grid fluctuates depending on a number of factors including the time of day, the size of the population using the power, and the standard of living for those on the grid, to name a few. The switchgear units DropBox Inc. is building will be used in combination with containerized battery boxes to store energy during low usage hours and to send that energy back out onto the grid during times of higher demand for power.
