On a regular basis DropBox Inc. recieves inquiries regarding ISO shipping containers and shipping container modifications. In an effort to better inform you the reader we would like to take this time to answer some of the most frequently asked quesitions from people just like you. Here's a short list of some of the most frequently asked questions:

  1. What are shipping containers made from?
  2. Are the containers DropBox Inc. modifies new or used?
  3. How are our shipping container modifications delivered?
  4. What can be built from shipping containers?
  5. How long does it take to get my modification once I've ordered one?
  6. What size do ISO shipping containers come in?

What are shipping containers made from? The International Standard (ISO) shipping containers modified by DropBox Inc are made out of 16 guage corten steel with heavy duty plywood flooring.

Are the containers DropBox Inc. modifies new or used? DropBox Inc. modifies all of it's products from new ISO shipping containers. "New" however is a relative term, in that all "New" shipping containers are actually what we in the shipping container industry refer to as one-trippers. In other words the containers have made one trip from the place where they are manufactured (typically China) to the U.S. Once the goods in the container are unloaded the unit is delivered to our manufacturing facility in Worthington, KY where it is modified into any number of DropBox Inc. Products.

How are our shipping container modifications delivered? DropBox Inc. can deliver it's products to your location a couple of different ways. The first is via a flatbed truck which would require a crane or fork lift at your site to off load the unit. If a crane or fork lift are not available at your site we can also deliver on a "roll off" trailer that can tilt to off load the unit.

Hi - first time to the site. I was wondering if you could explain why you prefer one trip units to older containers closer to the end of their lifecycle ?

Thanks for the comment/question. We prefer to use new or "one tripper" containers primarily because they haven't been exposed to the wear and tear of time and travel. Older containers tend to have rotting wood floors, holes, and rust that could hinder the structural integrity of the box and therefore the completed product.
